Full-Service Supplier of Thermal Spray Coating, Laser Cladding, and Machining
Hayden Corporation has been applying a diverse selection of materials by plasma spraying in the field since the 1960s. Plasma spraying is capable of applying the broadest array of materials, ranging from pure metals and alloys, to carbides, to ceramics with excellent density and very low impurity. The flexibility of the process makes it particularly useful for applications on site, where the coating requirements are often dictated by the equipment being serviced. Our rugged, packaged plasma equipment can be deployed to any worksite where electricity and cooling water are available, and our MIL-STD qualified coatings have been applied to submarines, power generating equipment, massive industrial heat treating systems, and outdoor sculpture, among many other things.
The motivating factor for most field applications is the difficulty, time, or expense required to move the piece to be coated to our shop. Some items are too large to ship, others are too delicate, and some are too hazardous. In many cases, the time needed to disassemble the equipment, transport it to and from our facility, and reassemble it is simply not available. For these applications, the most functional solution is to do the work on site. When our field teams deploy, they arrive with all necessary equipment to protect the surrounding area, prepare the surfaces to be coated, execute the application, and create the quality assurance specimens that will be used to certify the work by our lab back at the shop. Each job is documented according to our AS9100 quality procedures and the unique requirements of the job. Operators deployed to the site are pre-qualified, as needed, to meet the demands of the application, and our experienced teams are prepared to answer questions and adapt on the fly should adjustments in work scope be required.
Applications
Repair and Restoration
On-site coatings are especially useful for returning failed equipment to service quickly and efficiently. Pre-deployment planning prepares the team for the nature of the work to be accomplished and a rough sense of the time and materials required. If the work is to be done as part of a coordinated shutdown, a schedule of work, complete with planned milestones, is established to ensure that all stakeholders are able to maintain situational awareness throughout the operation. Deployment planning always anticipates a degree of extra work that may be needed, and teams ship out with reserve stock on board.
Routine Recurring Maintenance
When properly planned and implemented, thermal spraying can substantially extend the functional life of high-value capital equipment by periodically replacing critical surfaces. Working together with the client’s frontline and engineering staff, we can anticipate maintenance intervals, develop periodic inspection plans, and respond quickly with packaged maintenance operations to minimize downtime. By the time our team has packed out, your equipment is back online and running in top form.
Specialized Applications
Problem-solving is a key strength of our technical staff. Whether or not thermal spraying was an anticipated step in your manufacturing plan, we can ensure that a coating solution to your manufacturing challenge is executed quickly and effectively to keep the project on track. Engineered materials like nickel and cobalt superalloys, high density ceramics, and hard-wearing chromium and tungsten carbides can be strategically applied in the field to overcome a manufacturing flaw or meet a stringent contract requirement. And all of the work we perform will be fully documented and adhere to our
AS9100-registered quality management system to give you the confidence you require.
